Finally trying soap brows!

‘Soap Brows’ is a trend that has been going around for a while now. I have seen so many different people talking about it I thought I should give it a try for myself. There are a few companies that have released soap brow products but the one I have heard about the most is Pears soap. I thought I would give this one a try first as if I didn't like the results I wouldn't feel like I had wasted my money. To be honest I wasn't expecting to like the results at all.

I am personally very fussy about my eyebrows. I have been through some traumatic times in the past and have managed to keep them looking ok for the past few years. I had a full fringe for so many years and have only recently grown it out and therefore my eyebrows are on show a lot more. So I have to actually make sure they look ok. I had recently started to slightly fill in the few gaps I had with a NYX brow pencil which I absolutely love. I can't use anything too heavy as my eyebrows are already really dark and have quiet a strong shape. So I wanted to keep them as natural as possible. Being in lockdown and not leaving the house as much as I used to, I haven't been wearing makeup hardly at all. So I have been using a little eyebrow serum during the day to keep them in place and also conditioned. But on the days where I wanted to put a little makeup on or wanted to create a certain makeup look I thought trying out the soap brows would be perfect.

I got my Pears soap from B&M Bargains which if you know the shop is a very cheap place to shop. The soap bar was only 49p. It was a reasonable sized bar of soap so definitely worth the money. I couldn't believe it when I got it. As soon as I got home I wanted to try it out. I had seen a few people using it in videos and saw that they use it first before applying any base makeup, as you want to wipe away the excess soap that is on the skin around the brows. Which already seemed unusual for me as I usually do my brows towards the end of my makeup. I did exactly what I had seen online and sprayed the bar with a little setting spray and went in with a clean eyebrow spoolie and rubbed it on the soap bar making sure it was picking up a little product. You then simply apply this to the brows pushing the hair in which ever direction you want. I decided to brush them all up and keep them looking as fluffy as possible. Once you have applied the soap to the brows you can press them in place with your fingers to make sure they are set and also create the shape that you want. Once I cleaned up the edges with a cotton pad and some makeup remover I decided to fill in a few gaps I could see with my NYX pencil. I only went in very lightly with the pencil as my eyebrows were looking darker already.

I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome and couldn’t believe how much I liked it. I continued to do the rest of my makeup before deciding my final opinion as I realised they did look a little more dramatic than I wanted them to. Once finishing my makeup the eyebrows didn’t look so crazy. I did notice that they felt a little more stuck down than any brow gel I had ever used but I did guess this would happen as it’s a thicker product and the consistency is different.

After using the soap on my eyebrows a few more times that week I realised that I needed to use a little less product and only liked the look of the brows when I had other makeup on as they did seem a little harsh on their own. I couldn’t just do my brows and nothing else. But I have now been using the Pears soap on my eyebrows for a while and have grown to really love it. I will only continue to use it when I am doing the rest of my makeup, but I really like the look it gives and love how secure your brows are.

I was also really surprised with how easy it was when removing my makeup. As the brows felt like they are set in place, I was slightly worried that it would be hard to remove. It was the complete opposite. I went in with both my cleansers and gently massaged it into my eyebrows. I didn't really think about it, but as the product is purely soap it just bubbles up and comes off nice and easy. This was a really good added bonus for me as I love makeup that is super easy to remove and won't damage my eyebrows.

Overall, I would say it’s not a look for everyone and I probably wouldn’t use it on all clients but love the effect it gives on my slightly thicker brows. I would love to try out some of the other brands of ‘soap brows’ to see if there is any difference in using it and also the look it would give to the brows.
